In music therapy, therapists use the innate qualities of music to work with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages. Using structured activities or free improvisation, clients are supported to use music as a way to facilitate positive changes in their lives, communicating and improving their emotional wellbeing with the help of a music therapist.
This one day Introduction to Music Therapy course will, through interactive workshops, case study presentations and discussion, introduce the skills of the professional HCPC registered music therapist. It will give you inspiration and confidence to lead your own musical activities. Not only will you have a broader understanding of what music therapy is and how music therapists work, but you will have learnt skills that will enable you to musicalise your workplace and benefit your pupils/clients.
Trainers: The course will be led by Liz Coombes, Course Leader of the MA Music Therapy training http://www.southwales.ac.uk/courses/ma-music-therapy/ and graduates of the programme Richard Berenger and Jess Hughes. Richard currently has a developing practice working in schools and for music therapy provider Music Therapy Works. He will be presenting about working with children and young people. Jess is setting up Music Therapy Wales in Pembrokeshire where she lives, and will be showing her work with those in dementia care.
