During the 2nd-4th September 2015 the University of South Wales Treforest Campus alongside Assured Events hosted the AUE (Association of University Engineers) Annual Conference. The event had attendance of around 100 delegates and over 100 exhibitors which made Treforest Campus an ideal location to use their one stop shop facilities as all their conference needs were in one place.
The theme for this year’s conference was ‘back to basics’ with a number of top speakers speaking at the conference including: Ant Wilson director and fellow of Building Engineering UK AECOM, Fintan Lyons managing director of CCTech, Stuart Nixon, MD of Trident Water Solutions ltd and Adrian Webster motivational speaker and bestselling author. The delegates and exhibitors stayed in our Mountain Hall residence on campus for the duration of the conference.
There were 50 exhibition stands throughout the conference located in the sports hall adjacent to the conference centre, many of the exhibition stands were 3x2m2, with an option of 2x2m2 also. There was a wide variety of stands including the main sponsors of Cooltherm (holdings) limited and Thorlux lighting, however also a number of other exhibitors including: ENWA water technology, P4 limited, Siemens building technology and the Oakleaf group.
As well as the two day conference there was also a social programme for the delegates, this began on their arrival day where the delegates had picked an excursion to a local attraction the options included: Cardiff Castle Tour, Cardiff sea safari, Millennium centre tour and City bus tour, this allowed delegates the opportunity to see parts of Cardiff they may have otherwise not had the opportunity to see. The 2nd evening brought the gala dinner which was held at Cardiff National Museum where there was a special performance from Treorchy Male Choir. After the evening meal there was a special after dinner speaker Richard Parks who is an extreme adventure athlete and former Wales International rugby union player.
